  1. Frostscar Rise and Cave, with new dangerous mobs, gear and the Blizzard spell

    New

    • New area: Frostscar Rise, a snowy mountain to the north, with icy rocks, waterfalls and packs of Dire Wolves (combat level 55).
    • New area: Frostscar Cave, an ice cave beneath Frostscar Rise, reached by a ladder at the summit.
    • New mob: The Frost Dreich (combat level 140), an aggressive frost dragon. It bites up close and breathes frost from up to 5 tiles away. It often drops Dracahide (Frost), and very rarely the Dracacrest Shield.
    • New mob: The Young Frost Dreich (combat level 76), a smaller frost dragon that only attacks with melee. It does not have frost breath.
    • New mob: The Frost Giant (combat level 67), an aggressive giant found in Frostscar Cave. It very rarely drops the Rime Shard, which can be combined with the Giant’s Club to enhance it.
    • Hill Giants: Four Hill Giants (combat level 42) now roam to the east of Pencliffe.
    • New spell: Blizzard (Spellcraft 75, 23 Spirit), a damage spell. A cast that hits freezes the creature in place for a brief moment. Learn it from the Blizzard Scroll, which the creatures of Frostscar Cave rarely drop, with a spare scroll giving 1,250 charged casts.
    • New armour: The Dracahide (Frost) Cap, Vambraces, Greaves and Body Armour (Archery 60 and Defence 60). Make them with Leatherworking 71, 74, 77 and 80, from 1, 2, 3 and 5 Dracahide (Frost) and Thread. No tanning required.
    • New shield: The Dracacrest Shield (Melee 60 and Defence 60), the strongest melee shield. Equipping it also gives you Frost Resist.
    • New potion: The Frost Resist Potion (Apothecary 65), made from Wheat Potion Mix and Crushed Lingonberries. Frost Resist cuts the damage of a frost breath by 75%. Each dose adds a minute, up to 10 minutes. Pea Soup, Onion Soup, Leek Soup and Vegetable Broth also provide a minute of Frost Resist with each one consumed.
    • New potion: The Lesser Energy Potion (Apothecary 28), made from Oat Potion Mix and Crushed Bilberries. Each dose restores 15% of your run energy, and it can be chugged.
    • New bushes: Bilberry Bushes (Agriculture 30) grow in Steordale Forest, Frostscar Rise and south of Hestonburgh. Lingonberry Bushes (Agriculture 63) can be found near Frostscar Rise.
    • New weapon: The Frost Giant’s Club (Melee 50), a two-handed club. Fit a Rime Shard to a Giant’s Club at an anvil, with a hammer and Metalworking 50. It has higher bonuses than the Giant’s Club and keeps its Giant Smash special attack.
    • New music: Frostscar Rise has its own music theme, which carries on down into Frostscar Cave.
    • Pay: Right-click the Boatman, either Raftman or Goda Oxhyrde and choose ‘Pay’ to pay for the crossing or entry straight away, without talking to them first.

    Changed

    • Halloween event: The event has ended and the Wandering Witch has gone.
    • Slow weapons: The War Axe, Broadsword, Giant’s Club and War Bows, including their Perfect and Aquawyrd forms, now add 15% of your Max Hit to every attack, rounded and never less than 1, instead of a flat 1. A Max Hit under 10 still gets 1 more, and a Max Hit of 20 now gets 3. The Combat tab’s Max Hit includes it.
    • Armour requirements: Metal armour and shields now need Melee as well as Defence at their level, and leather armour needs Archery as well as Defence, as robes already need Spellcraft and Defence. If you are wearing a piece you no longer meet both requirements for, it goes back into your inventory when you next log in, if there is room.
    • Potions: Potions now have their own cooldown, separate from food. You can drink a potion straight before or after eating. Only a second potion or a second eat must wait.
    • Skill milestones: The Melee and Archery scrolls have a new Armour tab, listing each armour and shield with the Defence level it also needs. The Defence scroll now names the other skill each piece needs, lists the new Frostscar gear, and has a new Robes tab.
    • Minimap: General Stores are now marked with the pot icon, as on the world map, rather than the Storage Chest icon.
    • Website: The front page now shows the game in action, with short clips of a quest, every skill, combat and a world boss fight, and the world map. There is also a new link to vote for Fallen Marches on Scapelikes.

    Fixed

    • Eating in combat: Eating during a fight could make your next attack, or the arrow you were drawing, go through the motions but deal nothing. Casting a spell while drawing a bow could do the same.
    • Changing weapons: The first attack after changing weapon, such as from a bow to a sword, could deal nothing. An arrow still in flight when you change weapon now lands as an arrow, with Archery experience, rather than as a blow from the new weapon.
    • Inventory: Left-clicking items in your inventory could stop working for a moment after eating, and a potion drunk soon after a meal or another potion could be refused without a message. Dragging in your pack or the Storage Chest now only starts once the pointer leaves the slot, so a click is no longer mistaken for a drag.
    • Sole Marchers: After you killed your own copy of a world boss, it only came back once you had left its area and returned, so at Tork you had to pay Goda again for every kill unless you world hopped. Bosses now return after their normal respawn time while you wait.
    • Mob animations: Many mobs, including Wolves, Bucks, Sheep, Dairy Cows, Goblins, Giants and the Marsh Mammoth, showed a wrong frame for a moment at the end of a step, an attack or a turn.
    • Ground: At some camera angles, the edges of ground tiles jumped as you turned the camera, more so when zoomed in.
    • Cliffs: Cliff corners no longer poke a spike past the cliff top, and straight cliff edges are no longer jagged.
  2. Raft to Pencliffe, Following Players and Boss Changes

    New

    • Follow: Right-click another player and choose ‘Follow’ to walk after them. You stop following when you move or do something yourself, when a fight starts, or when you lose sight of them.
    • The Raftman: A Raftman now waits at each end of the river between Cirenvale and Pencliffe: one in Cirenvale, just north of the bridge into Steordale Forest, and one below Pencliffe East. Talk to him and pay 50 coins to be taken across to the other end.

    Changed

    • Bosses: When the Alpha Wolf or Arancensis is killed, any of the pack’s wolves or the brood’s hatchlings still alive now vanish too, so the boss’s next fight starts with all of them again.
    • Alpha Wolf drops: His Main Drop Table now gives 3 Wolf Furs as an IOU note (was 2 loose furs), 100 Steel Arrows (was 75), 75 Mithril Arrows (was 50) and 50 Cadronium Arrows (was 40).
    • Resource Caches: A cache now checks for a golden skilling tool on each of its rolls instead of once, so golden tools are a little more likely, and finding one no longer replaces the rest of the cache’s notes.
    • Cache tips: The Bottled Note, Inscribed Rock and Tattered Note now describe where their cache is hidden by town or landmark.
    • Location names: The location name now appears centred near the top of the screen, rather than in the top-left corner.
    • Chat: The client build line, the welcome message and the Global chat reminder now show when you log in, even with every chat channel switched off. The Global chat reminder is now in Global chat’s colour.
    • Mob chase behaviour: A mob that disengages because you are already fighting something else now walks back to the edge of its area, rather than all the way to where it spawned.

    Fixed

    • Doors and gates: Clicking a door or gate could send you out of the room and the long way round to its far side, such as from the Hestonburgh tavern’s main room to its kitchen door. You now open it from the side with the shorter route.
    • US1: If the direct connection to US1 could not be reached, you could be left on the loading screen or signed out. The game now switches to the backup route within a few seconds.
    • Fishing: Fishing spots no longer appear under a moored boat or raft.
  3. Pencliffe, The Haunting of Pencliffe, the Marsh Mammoth, Resource Caches and Global Chat

    New

    • New area: Pencliffe, a hillside village to the north east.
    • New quest: The Haunting of Pencliffe (Adventurer). Something has been troubling Pencliffe by night, and Elder Cenric needs help to find out what. It needs 20 Renown, The Giant Tree completed, Forestry 55, Bowyer 45 and Apothecary 48.
    • Perfect equipment: Wulfsige the Master Smith in Pencliffe forges Perfect versions of weapon and armour in every metal, from Perfect Ingots and for a fee. A Perfect piece needs a level 5 higher than the regular one and has slightly better stats.
    • New mob: The Marsh Mammoth (combat level 88), an aggressive beast found in the marshes south west of Pencliffe. It spits green goo from a distance and gores with its tusks up close. It often drops Mammoth Tusks, and rarely the Mammoth Bone Handle and the Corrosive Blast scroll.
    • New weapon: The Savage Twinglaive (Melee 60), a two-handed glaive with a savage goblin blade at each end.
    • New potion: The Greater Melee Potion (Apothecary 70), made from Wheat Potion Mix and a Crushed Mammoth Tusk.
    • New spell: Corrosive Blast (Spellcraft 55, 12 Spirit), the first Debuff spell. Cast it at a mob with a staff equipped to lower its Defence by a fifth of your Spellcraft level for one minute. Learn it from the Corrosive Blast scroll, with a spare scroll giving 250 charged casts.
    • Resource Caches: While fishing, mining, chopping trees or harvesting crops, you may now find a cache tip: a Bottled Note, an Inscribed Rock or a Tattered Note. Read it to learn where a Resource Cache is hidden. Resource Caches provide useful skilling resources and have a very rare chance of holding a golden skilling tool.
    • Global chat: One chat room for the whole game, across every world. Opt in from the Social panel and opt out at any time. You can speak in it once you have left the Tutorial Yard, one line every 5 seconds, and the panel shows how many players are in the room.
    • Combat tab: It now shows your Max Hit, and your Hit Chance against the creature you are fighting, worked out from your stats, gear, potions and any special attack you have armed.
    • Storage Chest: With the chest open, sacks and pouches have Empty, which puts what they hold straight into the chest, and Empty All, which does the same for every one of the same kind.
    • Update countdown: Before an update, a box in the bottom-right corner of the screen now counts down to it, on every world.
    • Chat box: The chat box now has a scroll bar down its right edge once the chat is longer than the box. Drag it, or click above or below it, to scroll.
    • New music: Pencliffe has its own music theme.

    Changed

    • Perfect Ingots: They now turn up about 1 in 1,000 at Metalworking level 1 (was 1 in 10,000), rising to about 1 in 100 at level 100 as before.
    • Logging in: The loading screen now waits until the world is in sync, so creatures and villagers no longer jump into place as you arrive, and nothing can attack you while it is showing. Entering US1 is also quicker.
    • Password reset: The email now names the account in its subject, and the reset page shows it too, which helps if you have a regular account and a Sole Marcher on the same address.
    • Spellcraft panel: Each category now lists its spells by level, lowest first. An order you have dragged yourself is kept.
    • Skill Guide: The Metalworking page has a new Other tab, with the Savage Twinglaive, and the Archery page now lists the Aquawyrd Hunting Bow and Aquawyrd War Bow.
    • Location names: The location name in the top-left corner of the screen now names the area you arrive in, such as Hestonburgh, Farehyth or Steordale Forest, rather than always saying Cirenvale. It also appears whenever you walk into a new area.
    • Fishing areas: Some fishing spots have moved. Trout on the Cirenvale Plains river are now fished from the west bank, the Salmon at Grazdur’s Hold from the north bank, Steordale Forest North’s Salmon are by the bridge, and Cirenvale’s Perch are further south. The pond in Pencliffe East has Pike.
    • US1: Your connection will now go straight to the server, rather than through Cloudflare. This will make connections to US1 more stable.

    Fixed

    • Running: Other players flicked into their standing pose on every step while running.
  4. World US1 is now open

A new world, US1, opens today. It runs on a server in Hillsboro, Oregon, on the west coast of the United States, so players in North America should find it much quicker to respond than UK1 or UK2. Australian players should also see better ping from this server compared to the UK server.

Your account, levels, inventory and Storage Chest go with you to every world, and you can switch between them at any time from the world picker. Your Friends list, private messages and groups work across all worlds.

Your progress is still saved in the UK, so whichever world you pick, your character is the same one.

The Privacy Notice has been updated to explain that the US1 world runs on a server in the United States.

  5. Halloween Event, Arancensis the Spider Miniboss, Heston Lake Caves, the Aquawyrd Bows and Crop Sacks

    New

    • Halloween event: The Wandering Witch. From 12:00 UK time on Friday 23 October until 12:00 on Friday 6 November, a witch appears somewhere in the world at the start of each hour and wanders for ten minutes. Find her and answer her riddle for a chance at the Witch’s Hat or the Broomstick, or an IOU note for some useful resources. You get one try each hour and must answer correctly, or your chance is wasted.
    • New skill: Fishing! Catch 13 kinds of fish in various locations across the rivers, lakes and sea, using a Hand Net, a Fishing Pole or a Wicker Trap. Fishing spots never run out, but every few minutes the fish move to a new spot in the same stretch of water. The Hand Net and Fishing Pole need bait. Hild’s Fishing Shop in Farehyth sells the tools and bait. She also buys fish at a better price than the General Store. Every fish can be cooked, and the Cookery milestones scroll lists them on a new Fish tab. Occasionally a Mystic Water will drop while you are fishing. This will appear at your feet rather than in your inventory. Fishing areas are marked on the world map and the minimap.
    • Sole Marcher accounts: When you create an account, you can now choose to make it a Sole Marcher, an account that stands alone. The choice can never be undone. A Sole Marcher can’t trade with other players. Every world boss a Sole Marcher fights is their own copy. A Sole Marcher only gets a mob’s drop after doing at least 75% of the damage to it. Sole Marchers show an Iron Helm badge beside their name, and the leaderboards have a ‘Sole Marchers only’ option. You may have one regular account and one Sole Marcher on the same email address, each with its own password. To play both at once, sign in to the second in another browser or a private window.
    • New miniboss: Arancensis (combat level 112), a new spider boss, found in her lair through an opening in the north wall of Cirenvale Cave. The fight is multi-combat and loot is shared, like with other bosses.
    • Elswith the Tailoress: Elswith works in Hestonburgh’s Clothing Shop. Bring her 3 Spider Silk, dropped by Arancensis, and 10,000 coins, and she will weave you a pair of Spider Silk Boots (Spellcraft 50 and Defence 30).
    • Aranweaver robes: A new tier of Spellcraft cloth armour: the Aranweaver Hood, Upper Robe and Lower Robe (Spellcraft 50 and Defence 50). Elswith weaves them from Fine Cloth Pieces, Spider Silk and coins, and will unpick Fine robes into Fine Cloth Pieces for 100 coins a piece.
    • Boss pets: Every world boss now has a 1 in 10,000 chance to give you a pet: Grazdurito, the Bull Calf, the Alpha Wolf Pup and the Spiderling. Deploy your pet and it follows you around. Pets can’t be traded or dropped, are kept when you die, and every new pet is announced on all worlds.
    • New area: Heston Lake Caves. The Boatman on the north shore of Hestonburgh’s Lake will row you out to the sinkhole in the middle of the lake for 100 coins. The sinkhole leads down into flooded caves.
    • New mob: The Greater Water Spirit (combat level 74), an aggressive water caster found in the Heston Lake Caves. It is weak to Storm Bolt and Shock Wave, and very rarely drops the Aquawyrd Glyph.
    • New bows: The Aquawyrd Hunting Bow and Aquawyrd War Bow (Archery 60). With Spellcraft 60, use an Aquawyrd Glyph on a Willow Hunting Bow or Willow War Bow in your inventory to bind the two together.
    • New special attacks: One for each Aquawyrd bow. Twin Tide (Aquawyrd Hunting Bow, 55% of the Special Attack bar) fires two arrows in one attack, each with a slightly lower chance to hit. The attack consumes two arrows. Tidal Shot (Aquawyrd War Bow, 50% of the Special Attack bar) has an increased chance to hit and adds 5 to your max hit.
    • Crop Sacks: Buy an empty Crop Sack from any General Store for 5 coins. It holds four of one crop: Barley, Flax, Oats, Lavender, Hemp, Peas, Onion, Leek or Wheat. The fourth crop turns it into a full sack, such as a Barley Sack. Crops you harvest go into a part-filled sack of the same crop first. The Grain Mill can grind straight from your sacks, and Harold at the Cirenvale mill will take a full sack in place of four loose crops. Full sacks of one crop share a single Storage Chest slot. A sack wears out after 80 crops. A part-filled sack can’t be stored, sold or traded.
    • New mob: Sand Crabs (combat level 10) hide in sand piles on the beaches near Nersey Monastery and south-east of Cirenvale. Disturb a pile to bring one out. They drop Raw Crab, and sometimes a Crab Claw.
    • New Cookery dish: Crab Meat (Cookery 5), cooked from Raw Crab, heals 5.
    • New potion: The Provoke Potion (Apothecary 43), made from Hemp Potion Mix and a Crushed Crab Claw. While it lasts, every mob that can see you turns aggressive, whatever your level. Villagers, townspeople, guards and bosses are not affected. Each dose lasts 10 minutes, stacking up to 30, and you can end it early by clicking its effect icon.
    • Leaderboards: Click any name on the leaderboards to see that player’s levels and boss kill counts. New boss boards rank the kill counts for Grazdur, Tork, the Alpha Wolf and Arancensis.

    Changed

    • Most resource nodes now give a minimum number of gathers before they can deplete. The count is shared by everyone working that node and starts again when it respawns. Depletion chances and respawn times haven’t changed, and Cadronite and crops are not affected. Mining: Copper and Tin 10, Iron 8, Coal 6, Mithril 4. Forestry: Rowan 10, Ash 8, Birch 6, Oak 5, Willow 4. Agriculture: Chicken Coop 30, Beehive 16, Dairy Cow 12, Rose Bush 12, Sheep 8, other bushes 6.
    • The game view now takes the shape of your window. Narrow or near-square windows show more of the world above and below instead of black bands. Very tall or very wide windows may still show a little black at the edges.
    • Changing world, or reloading the page, now keeps the last 10 minutes of public, private and group chat in that browser tab. It’s cleared when you sign out. The Cookies Policy has been updated to explain this.
    • The Master of the Marches’ instructions in the Tutorial Yard have been rewritten, and the camera step now mentions the middle mouse button.
    • The War Axe, Broadsword, Giant’s Club and War Bows now add 1 to your max hit on every attack, bringing their slower attacks closer to the faster weapons. The Goblin Savage Sword’s Melee Strength bonus is now +74 (was +70).
    • The Ancient Ring and Hunter’s Ring have had their stats doubled: each bonus is now +4 (was +2).
    • Each Enchanted Branch now gives the Writhen Staff 5 charges for Writhen Snare (was 1). The staff still holds up to 1,000 charges, and a Branch whose 5 charges wouldn’t all fit stays in your pack.
    • Melee, Archery, Defence and Spellcraft potions: each dose now adds a minute to a running boost of the same strength, up to 10 minutes, and they can be chugged. A stronger potion replaces a weaker one, and a weaker one can’t be drunk while a stronger one is active. Boosts keep counting down while you are logged out, and end if you die.
    • The Sickle, Spade, Shears, Hammer and Knife can now be equipped in your weapon slot. They work as normal from there, but can’t be used to fight. While a Knife is equipped, left-clicking logs will Fletch them.
    • Aggressive mobs now only engage you if they have line of sight. Walls, cave rock and closed doors hide you. Fences and low gates do not.
    • You are now logged out after 30 minutes of inactivity (was 10). Only clicks count as activity, not key presses, scrolling or turning the camera.
    • All restrictions on unbalanced trades have been removed.
    • Mob drops now stay on the ground for 5 minutes (was 2). Items you drop yourself, and the items left where you die, still disappear after 2 minutes.
    • The minimap now marks fishing areas, cave entrances and exits, upstairs ladders, the pub, and the Water Bearer, Milda and Harold the Miller.
    • The world picker now updates its ping more regularly, without needing to manually refresh.
    • Caves have a new textured look for their floors, walls and rock on High graphics. Low is unchanged.
    • In the Tutorial Yard, a gold arrow at the edge of the screen now points the way when your next objective is out of view.
    • On phones, the side panel drawer is narrower, and the Storage Chest, shop, trade and crafting panels now sit beside it instead of underneath it.
    • The Storage Chest now brings up your Inventory when you open it (on phones, the side panel drawer opens on your Inventory), and puts back whatever you had open when you close it. A new search box below the Storage Tabs finds items across all five tabs and shows which tab each one is on. ‘Bank Tabs’ is now called ‘Storage Tabs’, and ‘Deposit All Equipped’ now asks you to confirm first.

    Fixed

    • A mistyped address on the website showed the home page instead of a Not Found page.
    • Stepping away or eating food while a melee swing was winding up could cancel the hit. A swing started within reach now always goes ahead.
    • Some skilling animations could shake from side to side if the camera turned while they played.
    • Mobs could jitter from side to side while they walked or attacked.
  6. Steordale Forest expands north, the Alpha Wolf and a new quest

    New

    • New area: Steordale Forest has expanded further north. Raiders (combat level 34) and Raider Bowmen (combat level 39) can be found hiding amongst the ruins.
    • New miniboss: The Alpha Wolf, found in the Wolf Den beneath the cliffs of Steordale Forest. The fight is multi-combat and loot is shared by damage dealt, like with Grazdur and Tork.
    • New quest: Taken! (Wanderer). It starts with Eadgyth in the upper floor of Hestonburgh tavern, and you need 10 Renown.
    • Skill Cloaks: Reach level 100 in a skill and Steward Eorgar in Hestonburgh will sell you that skill’s cloak for 250,000 coins.
    • New special attack: Writhen Snare, for the Writhen Staff. Charge the staff with Enchanted Branches (up to 1,000 charges, bound to the account, not the weapon itself). The special uses 75% of your Special Attack bar and one charge, casts your selected spell with a better chance to hit for half its damage, and binds a mob it hits in vines for 15 seconds. A bound creature can’t move, but can still attack you if you are in reach.
    • New spell: Retrieve Arrows (Spellcraft 35, 40 Spirit). For ten minutes, arrows that would have dropped to the ground go back to your inventory instead. If your inventory is full, they fall as normal.
    • New Cookery dishes: Basic Meat Stew (Cookery 15) and Venison Stew (Cookery 35). The Basic Meat Stew takes Barley Grains with either Raw Beef or Raw Chicken, and the Venison Stew takes Oat Grains with Raw Venison. Both are made in a Bowl of Water and need a Knife in your inventory.
    • Harold’s Milling Service: Harold at the Cirenvale mill now offers a Mill Crops service. Bring 4 Barley, Oats or Wheat and an empty Pot, and he will fill the Pot with flour or grains for 5, 15 or 75 coins. No level is needed, and no experience is given.
    • Tester’s Monument: A stone pedestal in Hestonburgh is engraved with the final top 25 of the Closed Testing leaderboard. Thanks again to everyone who tested.
    • Fallen Marches on Android phones: The game can now be played on an Android phone. Tap to walk or interact, press and hold for the menu, drag to turn the camera and pinch to zoom. On a phone, the dashboard offers to install the game as an app.
    • Graphics Quality setting: Choose High or Low in your settings. Low gives a simpler look and a lighter load, ideal for phones. Phones start on Low, and each device remembers its own choice.
    • Level up: A beam of blue light now marks a level up, and other players nearby can see it.
    • Roadmap: The website now has a Roadmap page, showing what is planned for the game.

    Changed

    • Animations for mining, woodcutting, harvesting with a sickle, unarmed melee, and melee weapons have been updated. Animation speeds have also been refined and made more consistent.
    • The Minor and Lesser Spirit Potions now restore a flat 20 and 50 Spirit a dose at every Spellcraft level, rather than a share of your Spirit pool. They stay useful while you are new to Spellcraft, and the stronger potions will become more important as you reach the higher levels. The Spirit Potion and Greater Spirit Potion are unchanged. Edited: when this update first went out, these two potions restored less above Spellcraft 20 and 40. They now restore the same amount at every level.
    • The Greater Spirit Potion’s shop value is now 890 coins (was 1,680). This is to encourage its use for high Spellcraft users, instead of transmute fodder.
    • Bow and arrow strength stats have been adjusted to make arrow tiers more important. Bows now cannot use arrows above their equivalent tier.
    • Experience is now recorded past level 100, up to 100,000,000 in each skill, and counts towards the leaderboards and your total experience.
    • A fight no longer stops you from trading. If either player is attacked while a trade is open, the trade is cancelled.
    • When one mob locks you in combat, other chasing mobs now disengage and walk back to their spawn rather than forming a queue near the player.
    • The Quests tab now groups quests by difficulty, and each group can be collapsed or expanded.
    • Spell categories in the Spells panel are now collapsible/expandable, and spells within the same category can be reordered with a left click and drag.
    • Item icons are larger in the inventory, the Storage Chest, the trade window, the Equipment panel, shops and skilling panels.
    • The Frame Rate Cap setting now offers rates that suit your own screen, and frames are paced more evenly, so the game looks smoother.
    • General performance improvements, especially in busy areas and when lots of players are in view.
    • The Skill Guide now lists the Goblin Savage Sword, the Bull Horn Hatchet and Pickaxe, and a new Quivers tab under Archery.

    Fixed

    • The run energy bar could show a different amount from the energy you really had.
    • Fighting in the Grazdur’s Hold watch tower could interfere with using its ladder.
    • Quest log lines for items you can collect in any order now tick off as soon as each item arrives.
    • Clicking on a tree now matches the shape of the tree.
    • Players who lost connection during a quest boss fight could be attacked by the boss but not attack it back.
    • The gate into the Rowan Grove in Cirenvale could be open for one player and closed for everyone else.
    • A wandering NPC standing beside a door or a Storage Chest could stop your click to open it.
    • A Goblin Shooter standing on your tile could keep shooting from underneath you. It now steps out first.
    • World objects (especially large rugs) could wobble while you turned the camera.
    • The tabs on the Skill Milestones scroll could sit out of line, and a long list could spill past the scroll.
    • On short screens, the character preview on the Create Your Character screen could be out of view.
    • Rowan stumps no longer look a different colour from the tree.
  7. Steordale Forest, Tork the Raging Bull and a new quest

    New

    • New region: A new area has opened up to the east of Cirenvale – Steordale Forest. A Nature Grotto is found there which contains new, dangerous mobs.
    • First miniboss: Tork the Raging Bull, found near Cirenvale. He lives in his pen under the watch of Goda Oxhyrde, who charges 1,000 coins to try your luck with the bull. Fighting Tork is a multi-combat activity and loot is shared by damage dealt.
    • New Forestry and Mining tools: Goda Oxhyrde can make the Bull Horn Hatchet and Bull Horn Pickaxe from 4 Horn Fragments and 20,000 coins. They need Forestry 50 and Mining 50 to use, and are as effective as Cadronium tools, but without requiring the Arming the Troops quest to equip or use.
    • New quest: The Solitary Herbwoman (Newcomer). It starts with Mildrith in her house in Steordale Forest, and has no requirements.
    • Music: Existing music has been remixed to give it more of a retro sound, and new tracks have been added to cover Steordale Forest, and cave locations.
    • Hard Coal: From Mining 40, you have a chance to mine Hard Coal in place of regular Coal Ore (10% at level 40, with the chance scaling as you level up from there). Hard Coal counts as two regular Coal Ore at the Smelter.
    • New Cookery dishes: the Wheat Loaf (Cookery 75) and Honeyed Wheat Porridge (Cookery 80), which also raises your maximum hit points by 3 for a while. Milk can now be used in certain recipes, and a Bucket of Milk holds four servings.
    • New potion: The Greater Spirit Potion (requires Apothecary 65).
    • A new ‘Chug’ option for all tiers of Spirit Potion: right-click a Spirit potion to drink every dose left at once.
    • New clothes from the Clothes Shop Owner: the Straw Farmer’s Hat, Red, Blue and Green Fabric Boots, and a Woollen Cap made to order from 3 Wool and 20 coins.
    • Name badges: Admin and moderator accounts show a DEV or MOD badge beside their name in chat so that you can identify them.
    • VIP for Ko-fi supporters: each £5 you donate gives you a month of VIP, shown as a blue star beside your name. Write your username, and nothing else, in the Ko-fi message. You can see when your VIP ends, or hide the star, on your dashboard.
    • Chat revamp: Press Tab in the chat box to reply to your last private message or group. A group’s [tag] in the chat log is now a link to talk to that group.
    • Chat revamp: The chat box has now been reconfigured as a translucent box that can partially cover the game world. You can drag the chat box up or down to personalise how many chat lines show to you, then use the ‘Fix Chat Log Position’ in your settings to lock the chat box in place.
    • Drop table additions: Goblin Savages and Goblin Shooters now drop Goblin Fangs.

    Changed

    • Experience for mining Coal has been increased to 44 Mining per ore (from 40). This keeps Coal as a solid training option for longer, until Mithril mining takes over at higher levels.
    • Every aggressive creature near you can now come for you at once. The first one to attack you locks you in combat with it, and the others go back where they came from. While you are locked in, you can’t attack anything else.
    • Lesser Transmutation now gives 21 Spellcraft experience a cast (was 38). While efficient transmuting is a valid playstyle and will continue to be, Lesser Transmutation was providing too much experience.
    • Scaled Leather armour pricing has been adjusted to bring it in line with the previous changes to Cadronium gear. No one has reached the Leatherworking level requirement yet for Scaled Leather armour, and so has not benefitted from the prior values.
    • Skilling animations now stow your shield during the action.
    • On the Social tab, a friend or group member on another world shows that world’s name in yellow. The tab’s counter (purple icon) now shows only group invitations waiting for an answer.
    • Low wooden gates have a new look to distinguish them better from wooden fences.
    • On the minimap, NPCs, mobs and other players now show on top of map icons.
    • The “Connection lost” message now waits two seconds before it appears, so a short blip no longer flashes it up.
    • The level-up scroll now lists the spells you can learn at that level.

    Fixed

    • Walk mapping around cliffs has been improved.
    • Picking up two IOU notes for the same item from one pile could give you only one of them.
    • Rocks you had mined could appear replenished after logging in inside a cave or switching world.
    • Clicking across the bridge into Grazdur’s Hold from the south could freeze the game. Barricades have also been added to the bridge to provide a physical barrier. The barricade can be climbed from the south side to the north side (but not from north to south).
    • Unequipping arrows now adds them to a matching stack in your inventory, even when your inventory is full.
    • After logging in inside a cave, mobs that had moved could still show at their spawn positions.
    • Leaving the Tutorial Yard early, during character creation or partway through, no longer drops you outside it when you return.
    • A dark jagged edge could show along the bottom of the view in caves.
    • NPCs walking in a straight line could sometimes show a diagonal walking pose.
  8. A new quest, an Empty option and a fairer trading balance

This update brings a new quest and a batch of changes, many of them suggested by players.

    New

    • A new quest: A Wayward Shipment (Wanderer). It starts with Leof in Cirenvale, and you need 5 Renown and to have finished New Beginnings.
    • Right-click a filled Jug, Bowl, Vial or Pot to Empty it. The contents are lost and the empty container stays in the same slot.
    • Shops now have Buy X and Sell X.
    • After you choose X, the number you typed is offered as its own option next time (for example Withdraw 27). Each action remembers its own number until you log out.
    • Click a player’s name in the chat log to send them a private message, or right-click it to message them, add them as a friend or ignore them.

    Changed

    • The trading balance is now more forgiving. Each item counts as anything from 50% to 150% of its shop value, coins always at face value, and a trade is balanced when the two sides’ ranges overlap. Unbalanced trades now need 10 Renown (1 per quest). The 325 Total Level and the 5-day account age are unchanged.
    • The chat log remembers which channels you have switched off, even after you log out. Staff announcements always show.
    • Private messages from admins and moderators now always reach you, whatever your private message setting and ignore list.
    • On the leaderboards, players tied on level and experience are now ranked by who got there first.
    • Cadronite Rocks are harder to mine, and a depleted rock now takes 2 minutes to replenish. Each still gives two ores.
    • Mithril armour and weapons are a slightly deeper blue, so they stand apart from steel.
    • New Beginnings no longer gives Melee experience, and there is now another way to finish it without fighting.
    • A quest choice that gives away everything you carry and wear now asks you to confirm your choice first.
    • The world map now shows the Water Bearer’s and the Tanner’s services, the Lavender Plants and the way down to the Grazdur River Caves.

    Fixed

    • Various disconnections for players using the Firefox browser. If you still have problems, please let me know on Discord.
  9. First open beta update: balanced trades and fixes

Thank you to everyone who has played since the open beta began yesterday, and especially to those who reported bugs on Discord. Many of the fixes below come straight from those reports.

    New

    • Making arrows, stringing a bow and sewing leather now each have their own animation.

    Changed

    • Anyone can now trade with other players. A trade must be balanced unless both players have 325 Total Level, 14 Renown and an account at least 5 days old. A trade is balanced when the two sides are worth within 1% of each other, or within 1 coin for small trades. Items count at their shop value and coins at face value. If an unbalanced trade can’t go ahead, a warning in the trade window explains why.
    • Items you sell to a shop now appear only in your own shop window, and only you can buy them back. They still leave the shelf over time.
    • Porridge, soup and vegetable broth are now prepared in their bowl. The Bowl of Water becomes the mixture, and a burnt dish leaves its empty bowl behind.
    • Making an item now stops you where you stand, and walking away stops it. Tanning, leatherworking and spinning wool now also stop when you walk away.
    • Choosing Attack, Talk or any other action while walking now ends the walk straight away. It no longer finishes the walk first.

    Fixed

    • Harvested crops could disappear until you logged in again, after a villager stood on them or after a trip into a cave.
    • A crop with a creature standing on it could not be harvested.
    • Attacks, arrows and spells did not land across an open door from the far side.
    • Climbing a ladder just as you stepped off it, or logging in inside a cave, could snap you back.
    • Your character could be left standing between two tiles when a fight ended mid-step.
    • The servers no longer restart by themselves for system updates. That is what disconnected everyone at 07:04 BST this morning.
  10. Open beta starts today – 30 September 2026

Fallen Marches is now in open beta, and registrations are open to everyone. The game is free to play: create an account, verify your email address and you can explore the world straight away.

As announced, every account has had its progress reset for the start of the beta. Your login, username and friends list are unchanged, but your adventure begins again from character creation.

I would like to thank every tester once more for their time, patience and feedback over the past weeks. The game is in a far better state because of it. As a thank you, every account that existed before today has been given the Founder’s Wreath, which will be waiting in your Storage Chest. The top three players on the final playtest leaderboard, recorded at 12:00 BST today, have also been awarded the Gold, Silver and Bronze Tester Cloaks. That leaderboard has been preserved, and I intend to add a commemorative plaque to the game world in a future update. Stay tuned for that.

From today there will be no further account resets. A rollback may still be necessary if a significant bug appears and is exploited, because the integrity of the game and players’ achievements will always come first.

This is a beta, so expect bugs and unfinished content. If you run into anything, please post it on our Discord server. More content is on the way, and the game will continue to receive regular updates, with patch notes posted here as well as on Discord.

  11. Official open beta release date – 30 September 2026

Fallen Marches will enter open beta on 30 September 2026, and public registrations will be available from that date.

Until then, testers with existing accounts can continue to play. There will be a full account progress reset when the game moves to open beta.

I would like to thank all testers for their time, positive engagement and feedback. I would not have the confidence in the state of the game to move to open beta if it were not for the many hours of testing that have been put in so far. We are now on the final dash before the account reset, so I would be grateful if you could continue pushing the game to the limits of what is achievable in the last three weeks of testing.

One thing to note: once the game enters open beta, there will be no more account resets. A rollback may still be necessary, however, if a significant bug appears and is exploited. The integrity of the game and players’ achievements will always come first.

  12. Open beta begins in September

Fallen Marches will release to open beta in September 2026. Until then the game stays in development, and account registration stays closed. It opens when the beta begins.

The beta will be completely free to play. Expect bugs and unfinished content while the game is being developed: that is what a beta is for, and telling us what you run into is the most useful thing you can do.

There is no intention to reset characters when the game reaches full release, though rollbacks may be necessary if a significant bug appears.

  13. Fallen Marches is being built

Fallen Marches is still being built, and will soon enter live beta. Keep checking back here for news.

Account registration is closed until then, and will open when the beta begins.
